Red Green & Gold

The colours are red, green and gold.
The kitchen is warm though the outside is cold.
No other year has been like this year before.
Outside there’s silence; frost in the air.
The harbour is empty only waves alone out there.
Now that we’re all bottled up here in our home
Batten down the hatches of your heart
Cos this year’s taking its toll.
So as we carry hope, hope through the snow and the frost, we know
That the bells ring out nightly that all is not lost, no.
That bottle’s been opened and we’re digging in
Take cheer in each other as the movie begins.
We’re without some who love us but their warmth lives within.
And I’ll raise up this glass of warm winter wine.
I’m glad for the ones I hold dear in my life
And I have a few here with me for whom I’d gladly die.
So as we laugh and cry make a toast to the gathering night and know
That despite the cold and struggle our lights are a glow
Red green and gold.

Sister Sarah saint of the small
And of the big but often lost
Or the beached upon the barren rocks.
She’ll pull you out between the walls
Where you were stuck despite your claws,
Driving slyly through the night she goes.
She won’t need no compass to locate you.
She’s the headlights on the way.
As I said she’s the patron saint who saves the day.
There’s no water cold enough
That she won’t go diving in.
There’s no soul too small for saving.
Saint Sarah sister to us all.
She’ll drink until you hit the floor.
She wont sleep until she’s had it all.
Not many more were made like this.
She’s not a girl to contradict.
She set the mould no counterfeit.
Oh and she wont need no compass to locate you.
She’s the headlights on the way.
As I said she’s the patron saint of those who save the day.
She will be the measure of us all
And she will follow protocol, most of the time
Oh but most of all she’s a saint.
There’s no water cold enough
That she won’t go diving in.
There’s no soul too small for saving
No.
There’s no hour that’s too late
To keep her from driving out
To find the ones who are lost.
